The Rise of FemDom, and Your SEO

FemDom didn’t exist a few years ago. That is to say, the word FemDom was largely unknown. Today, it stands an ever increasing force all its own – a genre, a profession, a movement, a global consciousness.

Well, that may be pushing it a bit, but the word has clearly come into its own. Your mom may not know what it means, but a lot of Internet users clearly do.

In fact, FemDom has overtaken the word Dominatrix, according to a project by the website FiveThirtyEight.com. The website created a searchable and chartable database of words and phrases used on the social media platform Reddit from October 2007 through August 2015.

References to FemDom didn’t even exist until early 2010, and FemDom fully overtook Dominatrix somtime around September of 2014. It hasn’t been close since.

FemDom

Reddit’s mostly male, mostly young audience is not representative of Internet users as a whole, much less the whole world. But, it does give a clear glimpse into the rise of the term FemDom. Also, let’s face it, dudes remain the biggest consumers of adult services, whether that’s serving a professional Mistress or downloading BDSM porn.

A comparison of monthly searches using the SEOBook.com‘s Keyword Tool shows that FemDom averages more than two times as many searches than Dominatrix. In other words, Interenet users are defaulting to the phrase FemDom in droves.

So what does this mean? Not a ton, necessarily, though it does suggest that professional Dommes may want to revisit their search engine strategies, if you haven’t already.
